['kæskən], John Arthur, britischer Komponist, * Barnsley (Yorkshire) 15. 7. 1949; studierte u. a. in Warschau bei W. Łutosławski. 1991 wurde er Professor für Musik an der University of Manchester. Seine Werke, die zum Teil auch mikrotonale und aleatorische Techniken mit einbeziehen, zeichnen sich aus durch klare Formung und ein Gespür für nuancierte Farbtongebung. Schrieb die Oper »Golem« (1989), Orchesterwerke (»Tableaux des trois ages«, 1977; Klavierkonzert, 1981; »Orion over Farne«, 1984; Violoncellokonzert, 1991; »Still mine« für Bariton und Orchester, 1992; Violinkonzert, 1995), Kammermusik (3 Streichquartette, 1982-94), Chorwerke.
